Jean Francois Thomas, Minister of the Environment, presented to the press, the main lines of the Phase II of reforestation project of Haiti, to be carried out in collaboration with 20 experts Cubans.
Recall that Phase I, theoretical majority, has focused on disability in terms of education and environmental organization, while proceeding at the same time, to the planting of 4 million trees, according to the Minister.
Jean François Thomas pointed out that with the launch of the second phase, scheduled for May or June, the number of trees could increase by 2015 across the 10 departments. Hope that this objective is not only met but exceeded, while the alarming rate of deforestation in Haiti is 98%…
To achieve this, he said that several methods have been presented among which we can remember: “A program of aerial seed in order to reach inaccessible areas” presented by the engineer Aimable, Director Forest # 2 in Cuba, who expressedon behalf of Cuban Experts the willingness to work by sharing his experiences with Haiti and to fight for this project. Note that Cuba has increased from 13% vegetation cover (in 1959) to 28.57% today.
The Minister of the Environment has concluded, by presenting the objective of this project: “Covering the most space possible in an orderly and sustainable manner while putting emphasis on the most vulnerable areas.”
